Bill Reinhard | New York Daily News (TNS)Welcome back to the third season of Fantasy Billboard! We kick off the pre-draft analysis with a list of players that are ripe for exploding stats that your competitors may overlook. Last year I gave you Daniel Jones (9th in QB scoring) and encouraged you to keep the faith with oft-injured Christian McCaffrey (2nd in RB scoring) as breakout players. Let’s look at my choices for 2023.Jordan Love, Packers QB — Now that his love-hate relationship with Aaron Rodgers is over, all you need is Love. Rodgers took Allen Lazard and Randall Cobb with him to New York, but he left some pretty good receivers behind in Green Bay. The triumvirate of Christian Watson, Romeo Doubs (Love’s favorite target in camp thus far), and rookie Jayden Reed should ease Love’s learning curve to put up some solid stats in the weak NFC North. And don’t forget his pedigree. He was the 26th pick in the 2020 draft after throwing for 6,969 yards and accounting for 59 TDs in his ...Stanford and Cal join the ACC: The third newcomer, SMU, could be the key to reducing travel demands on the West Coast schools

Any Cal and Stanford fans planning to travel with their teams starting next fall will experience the big cities and storied college towns of the ACC, from Chapel Hill, Tallahassee and Charlottesville to Miami, Atlanta and, err, Dallas.SMU joined the league on Friday, along with the Bay Area duo. The Dallas-based university not only brings a massive media market but a campus with workable geography for schools on both coasts. It could be the destination of choice for the Cardinal and Bears if the ACC eventually implements a creative scheduling plan for its Olympic sports.“There were countless hours of discussions about how we can schedule in the future,” ACC commissioner Jim Phillips said Friday. “It was an amazing exercise. We want to eliminate as much of the burden on the student-athletes as we can. We have to be creative.”One option under consideration: Turn SMU’s campus, or the Dallas-Fort Worth area in general, into a neutral-site hub for intra-conference matchups, meets and eve...Want to be a fantasy football champ? RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Two years ago, voters in Virginia’s capital city narrowly rejected a referendum that would have opened the door for a proposed casino. Now, the developers behind a retooled project are hoping to change their minds. Richmond officials have opted to bring the matter back to the ballot this fall for a second shot, and backers of the project held a news conference Thursday evening to formally unveil plans for the latest iteration of the proposed $562 million gambling and entertainment complex. “We’ve been on quite a journey with this project, and we are excited that we are entering a new phase, a phase of reimagining, redesigning and rethinking and reinvigorating the opportunity here,” said Alfred Liggins III, CEO of development partner Urban One, Inc.The project — this time branded the Richmond Grand Resort and Casino — would be located on the same former tobacco company site just off Interstate 95 in south Richmond that was identified in the first proposal. ...Spain opens case against soccer chief for World Cup kiss. MADRID (AP) — Spain’s government began a move to oust suspended soccer chief Luis Rubiales, who ended a week of silence on Friday by insisting he was the victim of a smear campaign.Rubiales has come in for a storm of criticism and calls for his resignation for his behavior during and after Spain’s recent Women’s World Cup triumph in Sydney. Drugs and medical devices rarely come from the nonprofit world. There are more than 2,600 for-profit pharmaceutical companies in the United States, but only three nonprofits have products on the American market. One of them is Medicines360, which in 2015 became the first nonprofit to introduce a medical device — an IUD. The genesis of the device came from an anonymous foundation that saw one of the most effective and reversible birth-control methods, the hormonal IUD, was too expensive for most women. Even insured women could be billed copays of up to $1,000.In 2008, the foundation (which Bloomberg reported was the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation) partnered with pharmaceutical scientist and MacArthur fellow Victoria Hale and decided to make a six-year, $82.2 million investment to develop a low-cost hormonal IUD through a nonprofit company.“The real goal of the donor and of Medicines360 was to provide this product to safety net clinics at a very, very affordable price,” said Medicin...An explosion in Ecuador is seen as gangs asserting power after inmates take hostages and free some

QUITO, Ecuador (AP) — Criminal groups in Ecuador used explosives to damage a bridge in Ecuador on Friday, authorities said, demonstrating their grip on a South American country where prison inmates took dozens of law enforcement officers hostage less than two days earlier. Government officials described the violent acts as the response of criminal groups with a significant prison presence to inmate relocations, weapon seizures and other steps authorities took to try to regain control of several large correctional facilities.Four car bombs and three explosive devices went off across the country in less than 48 hours. The latest explosion with dynamite happened early Friday on a bridge linking two cities in the coastal province of El Oro, National Police commander Luis García told The Associated Press.Hours earlier, a domestic gas tank with wads of dynamite attached exploded under a different bridge in Napo province of Napo, located within Ecuador’s portion of the Amazon rainfor...Latest news
