Suspect in 2022 San Jose homicide arrested

(KRON) -- A man who was already serving time in an Arizona state prison on unrelated charges has been arrested in connection to a 2022 homicide that took place in San Jose, according to the San Jose Police Department. Noel Cortez was initially arrested in September of 2022 for a warrant out of Arizona. Fire at Civic Center BART Station creating transit delays Cortez was taken into custody and extradited to the Arizona State Prison Complex. San Jose PD Homicide Unit detectives later identified Cortez as the person responsible for a 2022 homicide.In that incident, officers responded on July 31, 2022 at around 3:55 p.m. to the 300 block of Umbarger Road on a report of a shooting. Officers arrived to find a man who was pronounced deceased at the scene. (KRON) -- A boy died and a man was injured in a shooting just a block away from the San Jose State University campus on Friday, according to the San Jose Police Department. A man and a minor boy were both found at the scene with at least one gunshot wound. The man was taken to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. DENVER (KDVR) — Police say a Brighton man died and a woman was hurt in an early morning crash in Aurora.It happened around 2:05 a.m. Monday near North Chambers Road and East 40th Avenue, according to the Aurora Police Department. Shooting suspect wanted after leading Aurora police on a chase Police say the man was driving a Honda Accord when he turned north onto Chambers from Interstate 70. He then rear-ended a Nissan Rogue SUV, which was stopped for a red light at the intersection.The Honda rolled once, killing its 26-year-old driver and hurting a woman passenger, police said. Neither was wearing a seat belt.The driver of the Nissan, a man, stayed on the scene for the investigation. Two people were injured and two people were taken into custody Monday after a shooting outside Brockton District Court, police said. Brockton police in a statement said officers responded to the shooting around 12:30 p.m.Police said a “stay-in-place” order went into effect for the area around the shooting site, including City Hall, the Brockton Public Schools central building, the Brockton Board of Health building and the city War Memorial.
